Publication in The American Conservative

Dmitry Simes, Jr., author of The American Conservative, in the article “Are Sanctions Harming Russia?” analyzed the economic situation in our country over the past three months, interviewing experts and business representatives. Aleksey Butrimov, General Director of BJet, shared his opinion, in particular on the development of aviation, with an American journalist:

“Sanctions against Russia are a blessing in disguise. On the one hand, we look with sadness at all the problems caused by the sanctions, but we also understand deep down that we can finally resurrect our aviation.

Now that we are in a situation in which we have nothing to lose, the only way forward is to create our own aviation system. There are still military aircraft factories in Russia, and in the current situation, all we need to do is expand the production of military aircraft to the civilian sector.

We are seeing the emergence of new small companies that produce key components, and the government is trying to promote the production of Russian equipment. So, on the one hand, we have problems, but on the other hand, these problems have finally launched the process of import substitution, as a result of which Russia will no longer depend on everyone.”
